The soldier who turned down a million dollar contract

Patrick Daniel "Pat" Tillman was a successful American football player and had a $3.6 million contract with the Cardinals. He had previously turned down a $9 million contract with another football team because he wanted to remain loyal to his club.

However, after the September 11 attacks, he decided to end his successful career and instead serve his country. Along with his brother, he enlisted at the U.S. Army and became an Army Ranger (comparable to EGB).

After several deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, Tillman was killed by friendly fire on April 22, 2004 during an ambush in Spera, Afghanistan.

Pat Tillman was 27 years old. He was 25 when he decided to trade his career for serving his country. Posthumously, Pat was promoted to Corporal and awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart.

Rest in peace, comrade.
